participating, the following brief biographical sketch and photographs
may be useful. Feel free to rewrite and to pick and chose the elements most relevant
to the event and your audience.
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Dr. Arthur Lyon DAHL of Geneva, Switzerland (http://yabaha.net/dahl),
has more than 40 years international experience in sustainable
development and environment. He is a retired Deputy Assistant Executive
Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), where he
was Deputy Director of the Oceans and Coastal Areas Programme,
Coordinator of the UN System-wide Earthwatch (earthwatch.unep.net)
and first Director of the Coral Reef Unit. He presently co-coordinates
the UNEP Major Groups and Stakeholders Advisory Group on International
Environmental Governance. For five years he coordinated the
UNEP/University of Geneva/Graduate Institute Programme of Advanced
Studies in Environmental Diplomacy.
He is a consultant to international organizations and research
programmes on values-based indicators, environmental assessment,
observing strategies,
indicators of sustainability, coral reefs, biodiversity, islands (islands.unep.ch),
environmental education, and social and economic development. He
holds an AB in Biological Sciences from Stanford University and a PhD
in Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. A
specialist on small islands and coral reefs, he spent many years in the
South Pacific as Regional Ecological Advisor with the Pacific
Commission (www.spc.int), and organized the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (www.sprep.org).
He represented the Baha'i International Community at the Stockholm
Conference on the Human Environment (1972), was in the Secretariat of
the Rio Earth Summit to prepare Agenda 21, the global action plan for
sustainable development, and organized several parallel events at the
World Summit on Sustainable Development (Johannesburg, 2002). He has
taken part in many interfaith meetings on the environment such as the
World Summit on Religions and Conservation and the World Parliament of
Religions. He is
President of the International Environment Forum (http://iefworld.org) and on the governing boards of the European Baha'i Business Forum (www.ebbf.org) and the Global Islands Network (www.globalislands.net). He has published many scientific papers and books including: "Unless and Until: A Baha'i Focus on the Environment" and "The Eco Principle: Ecology and Economics in Symbiosis".

du PNUE Groupe d'experts de la société civile sur le gouvernance
environnementale internationale, et il a coordonné pendant cing ans le
PNUE/Université de Genève/Graduate Institute
Programme des études avancées en Diplomatie
environnementale.
Retraité en tant que Sous-Directeur Executif Adjoint du
Programme des Nations unies pour l'Environnement, il fut Directeur
adjoint du Programme des Océans et des Régions
côtières, Coordinateur de Earthwatch (le plan vigie) de
l'ONU (earthwatch.unep.net),
et Directeur de l'Unité des Récifs coralliens. Il est
consultant auprès des organisations internationales en
indicateurs basé sur les valeurs, evaluation de l'environnement, stratégies d'observation,
indicateurs du développement durable, récifs coralliens,
biodiversité, îles (islands.unep.ch),
education sur l'environnement, et développement
économique et social. Il a fait ses études en biologie
à l'Université de Stanford et detient un doctorate en
biologie de l'Université de Californie à Santa Barbara.
Un spécialiste d'écologie des récifs coralliens et
des petits états insulaires en développement, il a
passé des années dans le Pacifique Sud en tant
qu'écologiste conseil regional à la Commission du
Pacifique Sud (www.spc.int) ou il a organisé le Programme Régional Océanien de l'Environnement (www.sprep.org).
Il fut l'observateur accrédité de la Communauté
internationale bahá'íe à la Conférence des
Nations-Unies sur l'Environnement Humain à Stockholm (1972),
détaché auprès du Secrétariat du Sommet de
la Terre à Rio (1992) pour la préparation de l'Action 21
(Agenda 21), et organisateur des événements parallels au
Sommet mondial sur le développement durable (Johannesburg,
2002). Il a participé à de nombreuses réunions
interconfessionelles sur l'environnement, dont le Sommet mondial des
Religions pour la Conservation et le Parlement mondial des Religions.
Il preside le Forum International pour l'Environnement (http://iefworld.org), et il est membre du conseil d'administration du European Baha'i Business Forum (www.ebbf.org) et du Global Islands Network (www.globalislands.net). Il est auteur de nombreuses publications scientifiques et livres, dont «Unless and Until: A Baha'i Focus on the Environment» et «The ECO Principle: Ecology and Economics in Symbiosis».
