New Caledonia

Last days in New Caledonia

In February 1985, as the troubles deepened in New Caledonia to the point where we decided to leave and go to France, Agnés and Alexander passed their last days in the country of their birth. They were to fly as unaccompanied minors to stay with their Caillard grandparents in Brittany, while Martine packed up and joined them some months later, and Arthur followed near the end of the year after settling all our affairs.

Alexander's birthday party

On 2 February, Alexander celebrated his sixth birthday at our home in the Vallée des Colons, Nouméa.

The difficult separation

It is not easy to say good-by when you will not see your parents/children for several months and be separated by thousands of kilometres.
